The painting depicts an obscure story recorded by the first-century Greek writer Plutarch: a group of bacchantes from Phocis awaken after a night of celebrating the rites of Bacchus. They find themselves in the marketplace of Amphissa, a town at war with Phocis. The women of the town have been guarding the sleeping revelers, protecting them from attack by soldiers. Characteristic of Victorian fascination with languorous women in ancient dress, the painting was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor when it was exhibited at the Universal Exposition of Paris in 1889.⠀

Contemporary items coexist in the space with classic mid-century Danish design pieces in a natural way. Furniture, lighting, cutlery, textile and decorative are produced by danish manufactures or selected among vintage pieces. Green color is used for both different fabrics and natural stone. Adachi Museum was established by a local businessman, Adachi Zenko, in 1970 and is based upon his private art collection. The museum is proud of it’s great collection of Yokoyama Taikan paintings and the splendid Japanese gardens which were selected as the number one Japanese gardens by the magazine Journal of Japanese Gardening for a 13th consecutive year. The founder, Mr Adachi, collected rocks and pine trees for the garden himself from all over Japan to create the picturesque gardens with their seasonal expression of natural beauty. He believed that gardens could be designed to look like a “living painting.” The gardens surrounding Adachi’s museum are composed of layers of varying landscapes and rolling hills, allowing them to appear impressively vast. The white gravel-and-pine garden, pictured here, is dedicated to the artist #TaikanYokoyama — whose work is prominently displayed throughout the museum. Chateau de Villette, built in the XVII century and designated as one of the most important historical Chateau in France, is located approx. 40 minutes west of Paris. The Chateau was designed by Francois Mansart (1598-1666) for the Count of Aufflay, Jean Dyell II, who served as ambassador to Italy for Louis XIV. The construction was led by Jules Hardouin-Mansart (1646-1708), nephew of François Mansart and a lead architect for Louis XIV. The splendid gardens were designed by Andre Le Notre, who also created the gardens at Versailles. The pedigree and elegance of classic design, brought by him, earned Chateau de Villette the designation of “Le Petit Versailles”.⠀

Chateau de Villette is set in a French woodland style park of 75ha, located in Condecourt.⠀
