Adachi Museum was established by a local businessman, Adachi Zenko, in 1970 and is based upon his private art collection. The museum is proud of it’s great collection of Yokoyama Taikan paintings and the splendid Japanese gardens which were selected as the number one Japanese gardens by the magazine Journal of Japanese Gardening for a 13th consecutive year. The founder, Mr Adachi, collected rocks and pine trees for the garden himself from all over Japan to create the picturesque gardens with their seasonal expression of natural beauty. He believed that gardens could be designed to look like a “living painting.” The gardens surrounding Adachi’s museum are composed of layers of varying landscapes and rolling hills, allowing them to appear impressively vast. The white gravel-and-pine garden, pictured here, is dedicated to the artist #TaikanYokoyama — whose work is prominently displayed throughout the museum.
